FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Launches Seed Capital Fundraising Campaign

(Charlottesville, VA), a website devoted to raising awareness of the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars, today unveils its Seed Capital Fundraising Campaign.  The purpose of the Campaign is to raise $30,000, the bulk of which will be used to (1) hire a law firm to prepare and file’s application with the IRS to be approved as a nonprofit charity, (2) research and develop its business plan.  Ultimately,’s mission is to develop into a global organization that’s dedicated to creating state-of-the-art educational media and activism strategies to prevent dogs from being left in hot cars, and helping to ensure that people who do so face severe legal consequences.’s creator, multimedia designer-writer Jon Sutz, produced a six-minute video that explains the nature and pervasiveness of the problem of people leaving dogs in hot cars, and the purposes of the Campaign.  “As the video shows, the problem is far more complex and widespread than many people can imagine,” he said.

Research shows that even on a 70-degree day, the interior temperature of a car with the windows partially open can reach 100 degrees within 20 minutes. A dog trapped in such a car can begin to suffer heatstroke and brain damage within ten minutes.  If left in that situation, death (or the need to be euthanized) can follow quickly.

“Some people are aware of the danger of leaving a dog in a car,” said Sutz.  “Many, however, are not.  And as I discovered in the year since I created, in many cases, neither are the authorities whom one would reasonably assume are aware of this danger – the police, and animal welfare organizations.  For example, between 2011-2015 alone, forty-six police dogs died agonizing, painful deaths from heatstroke, after being left in hot vehicles, nine in 2015 alone.  One even died in a Humane Society vehicle.”  Many other recent news accounts of dogs dying in hot cars are located here.

A small portion of the money from the Campaign will be used to videotape an innovative simulation of what a dog endures when left in a car, even with the windows partially down, and even in what feels like a “cool” day to a human.  “The specifics of my approach will be secret until the video is unveiled,” Sutz said, “but it is designed to be more comprehensive than others that have been filmed for this purpose.”

Those who donate $20 or more can also receive a free copy of the e-book that Sutz recently completed about Shayna, the “miracle dog” whom he claims saved his life after 9/11, and in whose loving memory he created “Saved By Shayna: Life Lessons From A Miracle Dog.”
